If you’ve read through other news articles we’ve posted on this site, you’ll probably have seen that we give a lot of importance to new ways in which GPS enabled devices can help us out in our day-to-day ‘real life’ situations, especially when it comes to safety issues. So when we heard news of a GPS phone app to fight rape, we were eager to get more info and share it with you.

Of course, this type of app will have more interest to more unsecure regions in the world, like India (where the app comes from), but it’s another good example of what can be done when it comes to the GPS technology.

In India, about 25% of all rapes occur in New Dehli, so it will be an excellent place to launch the test drive of the project, which is done in conjunction with the local police. Read more!

Here’s some good news.

GPS tracking helps police catch phone thief in La Cañada, demonstrating yet another real-life application for the Global Positioning System. We’ve only now seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the (nearly) endless possibilities for the system, but these types of situations show us that the time has long gone from its exclusive army origins.

Now we depend on GPS to drive, fly and sail to the exact place we intended to go, and come back safely. However, and as this article shows, the tracking capabilities of GPS also keeps our property safe… or at least recoverable!!! Read more!

The Gps system can be used in so many different ways, and in so many different types of scenarios, that even our government organizations are constantly evaluating new ‘real life’ applications for it. The exclusive army use from where it originated has long been forgotten, and now we depend on Gps to navigate on our roads, oceans and skies.

However, the system can be used for many other things, like it’s tracking capability. Having this in mind, and in an attempt to better the 911 service, legislation will be passed to assure that the US will have Gps on all mobile phones by 2018. Read more!
